Welcome!

Hello, my name is Malcolm Cottle and this is my application for the Content Developer position with Collections Arts. I am very excited about the prospects of this position and to share with you how I think I would make an excellent addition to your team. Creative content development is my passion and I believe that I have the skills to increase the awareness, activities, and the brand of Collective Arts. Here is why:

ExPerience

I have been doing independent video production for the past five years with my own business, which has seen continued success each year. I have directed, shot, and edited all the videos in my portfolio. I have had the pleasure of working with a variety of clients including small businesses, non-profits, musicians, visual artists, models, photographers, wedding couples, and more. With each client, I take great care to understand their vision to create a video that will standout and help accomplish theirs goals.

Relevant experience

Where I stand out as a content creator is my ability to share people's stories. Every video, no matter its objective, should tell a story. Human beings connect with stories, and to me, that is what makes a compelling video.
As a musician myself, I have a passion for music. I love all kinds of music and I thoroughly enjoy working with musicians. Music has become a very visual medium. I have had the pleasure of working with many different musicians to create music videos, concert highlights, promotion materials, and live studio videos. See more examples HERE.
The rise of social media has necessitated that businesses engage with their target consumers in highly visual ways. I have worked with many businesses and non-profits to help them tell their stories to connect with their audiences and boost engagement online. See more examples HERE.

I specialize in web-based content, creating videos that are optimized for social media. In 2019, I started an interview web-series called 810/60. 60-second interviews with creatives and entrepreneurs in the 810-area code to help promote talent in my community. We decided to make this series 60-seconds to optimize it for Instagram and attention spans. See more of theses videos HERE.
I have worked with a number of organizations that host events for their communities. Creating a highlight video of an event is a great way to show off the event and get people hyped for the next one. See more examples HERE.

What I can offer

First and foremost, what I can offer Collective Arts is a high degree of professionalism and work ethic. I work very hard and always present myself, my work, and my clients in a professional manner. As a creative myself, I bring a unique creative perspective to all my project while also meeting client needs and expectations.

I am a very well rounded videographer. As a video creator, I direct, shoot, and edit, as well as manage highly technical shoots that require meticulous organization. I am also a musician, audio engineer, and capable photographer.

What I saw in the job description is that you are looking for someone who is professional, works well independently, is self-motivated to pump out quality work, and can work fast. These qualities are what I have based my business on for the last five years. I have enjoyed working for many different clients; however, I am really interested in working with Collective Arts where I can focus on developing a single brand over many years and support other musicians and creatives like myself.

Proposals

After surveying your current platform content, I would like to proposal some potential projects.

Optimizing current series

I really like the series that you've already started on Youtube. Creating series like Just Tapped and Resident Artist are great ways to keep viewers coming back and engaging with the content. I would continue these series but optimize them a little better with appealing custom thumbnails, tagging, hashtags, and my approach to production. I have studied lighting techniques that give very unique looks that I think would elevate these videos and bring a production value that your audience would find very appealing. I would also like to expand the Resident Artist series. I think shortening them and increasing the production value would get these videos more views, while still telling the story of the relationship with the artist and the artist's story. This is hard to do, but very worthwhile. I have lots of experience shooting and editing interviews to communicate a lot of information in a short amount of time.

music sessions

In the past, Collective Arts has featured musical artists within their mini-series. I think it would be cool to build on this and host musicians for sponsored studio sessions. I really admire how your company supports artists and this would be a new way to give musicians another platform to share their music and promote Collective Arts. I have experience producing these types of sessions - with full audio production and multi-cam shooting. I think this would be a really neat direction for Collective Arts to explore and I have the experience to effectively develop this project.

I produced the video and performed in the video

Brewery bts

I think there is a lot of interest now about the people and process that make up a business. Beer culture is exploding and Ontario is on the rise. I have lived in, and been apart of, beer culture in Michigan for the last several years and I've learned some lessons that I think we could apply to your brewery. People love seeing the behind the scenes and learning the stories of the people that work in places like breweries, so I think this could be another series we could start to always be putting a face on the business and allowing people to take a "peek behind the curtain."

conclusion

I want to thank you for taking the time to review my application. I hope that you enjoyed looking at my work and considering my proposals. I very excited about this prospect because I think this opportunity combines everything I enjoy: creating videos, working with a business, music, the arts, and beer! I have always enjoyed your beer and I really admire your support of the arts. I have yet to meet an IPA from you that I didn't like. I'm definitely a hop-head, but I also enjoy all other styles of beer. I think it says a lot that you are interested in hiring an in-house Content Developer rather than contracting - it means you're looking to really grow and define your online image. Thanks again for this opportunity! I'd love to talk more about this position and what I can contribute. I too think that creativity fosters creativity, and I never turn down a delicious pint. CHEERS!
